ABCD can support Communities in a variety of ways. We can:

  • Help communities understand the importance of standardized developmental screening and appropriate referral processes.
  • Provide training on what to do and how to organize efforts to launch and sustain standardized developmental screening as a community wide initiative.
  • Offer training on developmental milestones, the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional, and appropriate local referral processes.
  • Facilitate and strengthen relationships between community partners, health care partners, and referral partners.

"Launching the ABCD project has been a great way to strengthen the relationships in our community between health care partners, referral partners and other community stakeholders. Implementing the screening process and working out the kinks in our referral systems has brought many different partners together in a very constructive way. The support we received from the ABCD team has been extremely helpful. This has been a wonderful project with amazing results in our community. Working across county lines can be difficult, but the support from the ABCD state team made it attainable” - Early Childhood Council member, Western Colorado

"The ABCD project has strengthened, and in some cases, created new partnerships in our community. The use of a Standardized Developmental Screening Tool by primary health care providers increased quality of care and strengthened the referral system between health care providers and Early Intervention Colorado/Child Find service providers. I really do believe in this project!" - Public Health Staff Member, Eastern Colorado

“ABCD has been great for our community. More practices now use a Standardized Developmental Screening Tool, more primary health care providers now refer to Early Intervention Colorado, and the relationships between health care providers and referral partners is much stronger.” - Early Intervention Colorado team member – Southern Colorado
